Greetings, dear ones! 🦌 1️⃣, or should I say, dear 10s !🫦

I was forwarded this email by someone in my life who loves me, and my question is…What even is EMOJI 🤷🏽‍♀️?
Incredible question!!! EMOJI 🤷🏽‍♀️ is a funny, chaotic lil solo show/TED Talk with original songs, big feelings, jokes about texting, a lil art theory, and a LOT of heart 🫦 written and performed by Aarushi Agni (she’s this comic who kinda looks like her 🧜🏽‍♀️??? 💁🏽‍♀️)

Yes, it is I, Aarushi, from the Times Square poster — bet you thought you’d seen the last of me… My head is easily 5x bigger (ok 3x bigger) than the real Aarushi’s, so I’m 5x smarter…it’s just science. It’s called a surface area to volume ratio. This is super biologically possible, stop asking questions, NERD 🤓! Anyway, if you haven’t seen EMOJI yet, respectfully, WTF? Tickets are here!!!! 🎟

Thank you to my dear friend / rockstar photographer / funny comedian Rachel Kenaston for this pic 📸 & companion on my literal BIRTHDAY

Okay, I don’t know who THAT was, but I’m back. Oh, not human-sized Aarushi, but the EMOJI version, 💁🏽‍♀️ This is just like Lizzie McGuire! (LMK if you get this joke. If not, move on!!)

There are ONLY 2️⃣ MORE CHANCES to catch EMOJI: The Hieroglyphs of Our Time, or how I learned to stop worrying and send the risky text 🤷🏽‍♀️ on FRIDAY (at 6:30pm) AND SATURDAY (at 5:20pm) at Under St. Marks Theater!! TICKETS ARE HERE!

…And not to be weird, but my parents & bestie ☺️ (that’s an inside joke you’ll only get if you come) are coming to one of them — and I need them to think I am cool 🆒 and loved 😍!

If you’re not sure why you would come, STAY WITH ME (BUT ALSO SCROLL DOWN) ⤵️

🎟 Buy tickets to ▶️ stream or see it live here.

Kirthana Ramisetti, acclaimed author of the The Other Lata and Advika and The Hollywood Wives said …

Absolutely dazzled… I expected to laugh, but not to be so deeply moved.”

So that’s kind of what we’re working with here. Here’s another little blurb (in the screenshot below because it’s me) from J. Bala, a writer and comedian, who’s literally coming to see the show a second time?! 🥹

WHY YOU SHOULD COME SEE EMOJI 🤷🏽‍♀️

….everyone is doing it. JK don’t do anything because of that reason! BUT TBH if you saw the quality of the people who are doing it??? 🥰

no, but for real…

EMOJI: The Hieroglyphs of Our Time, or how I learned to stop worrying and send the risky text 🤷🏽‍♀️ is…

hilarious 😁 poetic 📝 love letter 💌 concert 🎙 lecture 👩🏽‍🏫

with… original songs 🎶, a sexy glimpse into the ~my receipts archive~ 🧾 , jokes about emoji! art criticism! and a LOT of big feelings!!! 🤣😫💀🥰💩🫣🫦🌝 about relationships👯‍♀️, texting 💌 language 💬, power 🔋, connection 🫂 , and the SUPERMOON. 🌕

This show is:
Funny AF 😌
MUSICAL featuring my singing voice — which is actually very good🎙
Full of tangents that give language to things you kinda always thought 💁🏽‍♀️
Nerdy in a fun way, NOT in a "um, actually" kinda way 🤓
Featuring lil sketches, videos, slides, and MUSIC (you know the the thing that the hills are alive with the sound of…?) I channeled from the collective consciousness 🎶🔮
If I’ve done my job… it’ll make you feel less alone 🫂

Taken on my birthday, a day when I’m in touch with the divine 🦄

If you’ve ever…
☺️ Craved community
💬 Wondered why some text a novel — & others send a single heartxclamation point❣️
🤔 Felt the crushing weight of an awkward miscommunication
📱 Sent “no worries if not” when you actually meant “I’ll do it this time I SWEAR”
🍆 Wondered the true meaning of the eggplant emoji (guys, I think it’s just an eggplant?)
👀 Wanted a show that makes you laugh, feel, & bond for life with the person sitting next to you…

… then you should ABSOLUTELY come see this show. 💁🏽‍♀️🪄

And guess what? Time Out New York thinks it’s cool too. 😎

some 🤔 🎶reflection🎶 (like C. Aguilera)

This…fucking... show. Those of you who have seen it may now understand why I’ve been so manic/crazy these past few months. It’s really been a lovely, long conversation with myself & community about what matters the most, what’s funniest, & what my soul wants to say!

I can barely fit all the thank-yous on the slide at the end of the show. I can’t hope to ennumerate the joy and encouragement I’ve felt. You all sustain me, and you keep me honest... ❤️‍🩹 even on days when the demons really sound sexy 😈 (FYI My 🧠-📻 is playing Shake it Off by Florence.)

These last few days have been… hours ⏳ & tears 😭 & tarot 🎴 & stiff jaw 😬 & too-soft mattress 🛌. I also stepped out of a yoga class 🧘🏽‍♀️ to vomit 🤮.

It’s crazy that I’m halfway through this run. All my solo show girlies will attest… doing this kind of work can be isolating & weird at times. I feel like a vessel. At times that can be painful. 🩸

holding space… 👩🏽‍🚀 for the work. being full. of words. songs I wrote stuck in my head. 🎶😵‍💫 people’s stories I want to give justice to… knowing I will of course always fail — & always the reminder to me from (past or future or present or timeless) me… that art & communication & community are in fact only possible in their imperfections…that beauty arises from the fun, specificity & terrors of our little glitches.

I am not a keyboard warrior. I’m a belly-yeller. A heart-wailer. I am not doing the math.

A friend on the phone today said “You’re giving birth to it, and it’s not over yet.”

True that, sis.

This little bitch is gonna take a village, or maybe like, a city. 🐶🌆

LOVE,
Aarushi & The EMOJI Team 💜❤️💙💖🧡

My amazing producing team… Annie Moretto 🥰, Sam Lochs 😘, 🤷🏽‍♀️, Dominique Nisperos 🥹
& Jess Ducey😍.
