Hello my dear friends! Hope you all had a great Halloween!1

But today.. is November 4th.

There’s a matter of great civic importance that just requires a few minutes of your time. Something that could make a real difference. 🗳

A hot brown person coming into their own like never before. This is huge for the city, and also, it’s huge for us.

And it all depends on you 🫵🏽 showing up TODAY.

Yes, you know what I’m about to say.

You MUST get tickets 🎟 to me, Aarushi’s solo show, EMOJI: The Hieroglyph… WAIT… what were you talking about?

All jokes aside, the astrology is crazy and Zohran simply has to win. Please get over to your polling place 🗳 — it’s not too far from you — and GET your sweet 🍑 to the polls BEFORE 9PM!

Not unlike Zohran, I have been on my own little campaign… showing up at bars like, “NEW YORK, ARE YOU READY?”

Speaking of which, are YOU 🫵🏽 ready? For EMOJI this weekend?

EMOJI 🤷🏽‍♀️ starts its run at Gotham Storytelling Festival this Saturday November 8 at 5PM.

Why come to EMOJI?

Fair question. Well…

EMOJI: The Hieroglyphs of Our Time, or how I learned to stop worrying and send the risky text 🤷🏽‍♀️ is…

a funny, musical TED Talk about EMOJI and human connection ...

or maybe like a poetic 📝 hilarious 😁 love letter 💌 concert 🎙 lecture 👩🏽‍🏫

This show is:

Funny AF 😌
Has 5.5 original songs 🎶 (my singing voice — actually very good 🎙)
Full of tangents that give language to things you kinda always thought 💁🏽‍♀️
Nerdy in a fun way 🤓
Featuring videos, slides, and MUSIC I channeled from the collective consciousness (wrote)… 🔮

If you’ve ever…

☺️ Craved community
💬 Wondered why some text a novel — & others send a single heartxclamation point ❣️
🤔 Felt the crushing weight of an awkward miscommunication
📱 Sent “no worries if not” when you actually meant “I’ll do it this time I SWEAR”
🍆 Wondered why you can't text your mama about baba ganouj
👀 Loved a show that makes you laugh, feel, & bond for life with the person sitting next to you…

… then you should ABSOLUTELY come see this show 💁🏽‍♀️🪄

Those dates again are…

Me and my lovely producer Jess Ducey holding our award for selling out New York City Fringe Festival earlier this year — with your help 🌸

Quick reminder that we sold out NYC Fringe 🏆 and that’s cute, but more importantly as an artist / global citizen / person / teacher , I get to share this beautiful, hilarious and meticulous show with more people in the WORLD. 🌍 Tickets here.

The message ✍🏽 I share in it is hilarious, important and hard-won. That’s the only reason I can go as hard for it as I do.

EMOJI is making a real difference for its public. I can tell because I was there and I felt the energy in the room, but also because I got a boatload of glowing reviews from audiences (the people who would know.)

We’re in the homestretch of this show cycle and I’m 100% freaking out 😅 But YOU don’t have to worry about anything. Just grab a ticket 🎟 and come as you are — or grab a few pals, too!

👉🏽 If you’ve seen this show and you loved it, please consider forwarding this email or the show poster to someone who hasn’t seen it, who you think would resonate with its message. 🙏🏽 🙏🏽

Finally, my dear friend Omnia had her birthday this past week. She is 22 and she was just 20 when the bombardment started in Gaza. Even though we heard talk of a ceasefire, Israel has violated it. Please donate to Omnia here.

EMOJI is all over the city 👀

Thanks to my wonderful street team(s)… flyers for EMOJI are all over the city. If you see one, please take a picture and tag me, or DM it to me!

I’ve gotten good at talking to strangers…

since Newburgh, I’ve been cold approaching people to tell them about my show, and it honestly rocks! It turns out that people want to talk to you. Especially if you tell them you’re excited about your art.

People want to be a part of things. 🕊

New York can be a scary place, but that’s an institutional problem. And institutions can fall.

The vampires 🧛🏻‍♀️ of our society thrive off our fear. Don’t let them stop you from being brave. ☀️

Talk to someone nice. Be kind. Tell someone about your great idea. 💡You might be the best thing that happened to someone today.

THAT was corny 🌽 . Me at 17 would be cringing. But now, I love a sexy lil cringe. 😬 It’s actually SO funny. And, like fuck, we need each other.

With all love, and I love New York, and buy tickets for this weekend!

Aarushi 🌸
