LAST CHANCE TO SEE EMOJI 🤷🏽‍♀️AT GOTHAM STORYTELLING FESTIVAL LOADING….

The sun sets on EMOJI’s run at Gotham Storytelling Festival tomorrow. 🌞🌄😔

And joy and art are so fleeting in this life! I hope you’ll come see it❣️👀

It’s been a hilarious, stupid, lyrical, sputtering, uncomfortable, and wildly beautiful ride. 🌊
This show kinda saved my life…🤷🏽‍♀️😭 It guided me to where I belonged in the collective.

I push the show because I know the work that it does in the world. 🌏 It is one thing that I can do to be human and make you all be human with me. I would never be able to be so loud about something I wasn't 10 toes down about. 🦶🏽

I can honestly say I've never felt this way before about something I’ve made or done. It’s part of my soul-purpose and my legacy. In a hot way. 🥵

If you know this show, and you know someone who needs it, please forward this email to someone. I’ll wait. Just kidding, I’m somewhere else entirely right now. But I am cosmically waiting. 👀

EMOJI: The Hieroglyphs of Our Time, or how I learned to stop worrying and send the risky text 🤷🏽‍♀️ is…

a poetic 📝 hilarious 😁 love letter 💌 concert 🎙 lecture 👩🏽‍🏫

you know, just another one of those!

This show is:

Funny AF 😌
Has 5.5 original songs. And my singing voice — actually very good🎙

Full of tangents that give language to things you kinda always thought 💁🏽‍♀️

Nerdy in a fun way, NOT in a "um, actually" kinda way 🤓
Featuring videos, slides, and MUSIC (you know the the thing that the hills are alive with the sound of…?) I channeled from the collective consciousness 🎶🔮

If you’ve ever…

☺️ Craved community

💬 Wondered why some text a novel — & others send a single heartxclamation point❣️

🤔 Felt the crushing weight of an awkward miscommunication

📱 Sent “no worries if not” when you actually meant “I’ll do it this time I SWEAR”

🍆 Wondered the true meaning of the eggplant emoji (Guys, I think it’s just an eggplant?)
👀 Loved a show that makes you laugh, feel, & bond for life with the person sitting next to you…

… then you should ABSOLUTELY come see this show. 💁🏽‍♀️🪄

With… original songs 🎶, a sexy glimpse into the my receipts archive 🧾, jokes about emoji!, art criticism!, and a LOT of big feelings 🤣😫💀🥰💩🫣🫦🌝 about relationships 👯‍♀️, texting 💌, language 💬, power 🔋, connection 🫂, and the SUPERMOON 🌕

The tickets again are here.

💌 Some lowkey wonderful reviews we’ve gotten

Cecilia Cannick who curates and reviews events in Hey, Wanna Hang? did a review and a reel about EMOJI.

Aarushi moves effortlessly between humor and heartbreak. Somehow weaving in a multimedia presentation, musical numbers, the moon, and even a near-death experience. The result feels part performance, part confessional, part cosmic therapy session.

Meeks’ Sunday Side Quest wrote a beautiful review about EMOJI

This award- winning, one-person show, part of the Gotham Storytelling Festival, was really special in terms of education, production, and the use their platform for activism. I laughed, I reflected, and I googled a few things out of curiosity… [Aarushi] proceed[s] to explain how the use of Emoji’s to lighten risky texts is a human experience shared with many Boyfriend co-op frequenters and delayed-response enthusiasts (AKA those of us figuring life out, and having existential crises at least once a month LOL). Our fears of miscommunication may cause us to over-complicate responses, thus resulting in some awkward moments, or moments when we realize connection is so needed.
